Thanks for the great link to the glossary! Like el rata (funny, I always say "la rata", which I suspect is wrong), I learned quite a bit. I agree with him on cónyuge. It not only sounds wrong, but vulgar, too! I'll continue saying cónyugue, or better yet, esposo(a), when appropriate. I wish they had the translation of “trillion”. I tried to apply the logic behind the translation of “billion” and I think it means that the government’s $700 billion (near one trillion) bailout, is in Spanish, not $700 billones, but $700 mil millones (casi un billón). Doesn’t sound as big. Also, el rata’s El Ñame is hilarious… Fran
Fran and Steve: FYI, you are right in that the animal itself is "una rata": when speaking colloquially, though, "un rata" is a man who behaves like a rat (it can apply to someone who says snarky things and doesn't mind his manners too much). ;-)
Like you, I will also keep saying "cónyugue" because "cónyuge" just sounds WRONG. :-)

Anytime... I love El Ñame! Nice Spanish lesson there, too! And I agree on cónyugue... but I'll talk about that more in the original post I suppose.
