This one really takes the cake: Mayagüez politicians are suggesting funding a search for sunken treasure in order to pay for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Now I understand the importance of hosting this, but the chances of them pulling this off are slim. I mean, come on now!

It might be a simple matter of leverage: depending on how much they need for this salvage operation (if it's less than 10% of the cost of the games it might be worth pursuing), how well documented is the traesure (a preliminary dive could be well advised), how reputable are the "rescuers" etc. etc.
Is not that profound... we are know for always trying to find the way of least sweat/sudor. First you try through the courts, then you sue, but rarely do we try to the hard way by using our brains to find the best and most efficient way to fund the things we need.
Yes, we are lazy..
I have a cruise to the Caribbean soon, can I take my snorkel and help them out? :)
