One last post tonight, I swear. I just wanted to pass along this blog post talking about Puerto Rico's attempt at establishing itself as a "fancy" destination, especially Condado. Something about this seems... strange. Does anyone else get that feeling? Not in a sense of Americanization but just... I don't know what. What do you think?

I don't feel strange at all... San Juan is already chic... is a historic area with a Spanish/bohemian/artsy chic feel... at leat that's how I always felt/perceived old San Juan when I was growing up...
there might be few american food chain around the old city... but that's it... there's no Americanization there...
My boyfriend and I went to La Concha a few weeks ago to check it out - wow! We thought that it was very chic and have been meaning to go back to lounge in the bar but haven't had time yet. Much much nicer than the Marriott in Condado for sure.
I'm looking forward to see how Condado will look like in a few years when all the derelict buildings hopefully will be gone. Nevertheless I hope that Condado will keep some kind of personality and not just be an area of American chains and Gucci shops.
